Our Wedding: The Rehearsal & Rehearsal Dinner

wedding rehearsal

Since I am still waiting to get our professional photos back, I figured I would share some photos from the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner since I have quite a few of those. I will also warn you ahead of time I make some ridiculous facial expressions...

Our rehearsal was June 20, a Friday. We had to drive up to Independence, MO that day from Columbia as M was working through Thursday that week. When we arrived at the hotel there were so many family members there to greet us. I am not going to lie, this is when I started to get really overwhelmed about everything. I am a total introvert, and that much attention on me was a lot! Especially since I hadn't seen a lot of my family in a while.

My mom and I had a nail appointment around 11:30 so we quickly hurried off to that. The whole time I was getting my nails done, my stomach was in knots. I think this is when it finally set in that I was getting MARRIED the next day. I had been talking to Lauren a lot that day (especially because so many of my family and bridesmaids were on a plane there!) so I texted her and asked her to pray for me. She is seriously such an amazing friend, because this is what she sent me:

Seriously, this girl. She knew just what to say. It did not instantly calm my nerves but it definitely snapped me out of the anxiety I was feeling.

After we got our nails done, we made our way to lunch for some time alone before heading back to the hotel. I was able to get part of a salad down, and we share some champagne which was lovely!

As soon as we got back to the hotel, I had to check into my room and get ready for the rehearsal. It was nice to have 30 minutes or so to myself before my MOH arrived to finish getting ready with me. All of our friends, family, and wedding party met us downstairs and we headed off to the venue!

Once we arrived things went by very quickly. I had mentally checked out because I started to realize that our wedding coordinators had it down and I did not need to worry about the details! It was nice to sit back and relax for a bit before it was time to practice walking down the aisle (EEK!). But really look how happy my bridesmaids look to be there (sarcasm)!

It was SO HOT that day so I am thankful that our Pastor, TJ, made it quick. We had talked about practicing both inside and outside as rain was in the forecast. HOWEVER, that day the forecast changed and the chance of rain basically disappeared so we only had to practice inside (HALLELUIAH!). It really was over quickly, we were only there about an hour.

After this, it was on to our rehearsal dinner. My mother and law found the cutest little place (literally in a TINY town) that was perfect for us.

My father in law lead us in prayer, and then it was time for FOOD! I still wasn't really hungry but you bet I force fed. And also had a few glasses of wine, because it was necessary.

After shoving my face I was able to get up and visit a little bit more with people which was really nice. I really enjoyed seeing all of the important people in our lives interact with each other.

Then, it was time for wedding party gifts and parent gifts. We really wanted to honor each and every one of these people so we agreed to give a little background on each of our groomsmen and bridesmaids. I didn't prepare, and M did. He pretty much killed it and I choked (hahaha). BUT everyone loved their gifts. And we got them to cry so that's a win.

Following this, our mother in law told us we were going to play a game. We had no idea what was going on. Then she pulled out little paper plate fans with our faces on them. AWESOME. She had put together a game where people have to guess things like "Who wakes up earlier?" and so on. It was a blast. I was actually surprised at how poorly people did, even our friends (sorry guys)! It was definitely a highlight of the evening. I remember not wanting the night to end.

When we got back to the hotel, we wanted to take a little time to say hi to everyone that had arrived before heading off to bed for the night. I had a room with my bridesmaids, and M had his own room so we met up in his for a bit. Somewhere along trying to get to his room, his aunt pulled us side and DRUG us into one of M's family member's rooms. I hadn't met over half of them yet so this was a lot of fun. It got even more interesting when I realized a tiny little woman sitting on the bed. I didn't recognize her. Then, I saw M's face drop and tears come. Then I realized that it was his grandmother (who had said she wasn't going to be able to make the trip). It was a really happy moment and a great way to finish off the night.

After all of this excitement, I was ready for bed so the bridesmaids and I returned to our rooms. I was worried about not being able to sleep so I took a melatonin that my brother gave me. Needless to say, around 1am I realized it wasn't working so I took another. It didn't work either. At that point I decided I was tired of trying to sleep so I just stayed up and read. I knew I would be running on enough adrenaline the next day that it wouldn't even matter.
