What to Tell Yourself When You Don't Want to Exercise + Meet Lindsay

Do you struggle with getting motivated to exercise? I can definitely relate. The motivation to exercise doesn't always come naturally to me despite the fact that I really enjoy it. That's why today I am teaming up with Sierra from Sierra's View to bring you six things to tell yourself when you don't want to exercise.

Sierra's tips:

1. This Will Help My Emotional and Mental Health.
Anxiety, depression, and stress is exceptionally common these days. It seems as though everyone I know is dealing with many emotional and mental health problems (including myself!). And if they don't, they are stressed out of their minds. I love that exercise helps me physically, but I love what it does for my brain even more. I love my perspective afterwards--my mind seems to be more clear, calm and happy.

2. I Will Feel Better About Myself.
Each of us is beautiful in our own way…no matter what size you are. However, I have never felt worse about myself once I have exercised. I always seems to feel more beautiful after I exercise.

3. I Will Have More Energy.
More than anything in the world, exercise makes me have energy. I know that when I am exhausted, exercising is the LAST thing that I want to do. However, I find that afterwards, or even the next day, I have the energy to socialize and move and work harder at my job.

Cassie's tips:

1. I Will Feel Empowered.
Nothing empowers me more then reaching my goals. I feel strong, confident, and brave when I take the time to invest in my health through exercise.

2. I Will Be Motivated to Make Other Healthy Decisions.
I don't know about you, but when I exercise I am far more compelled to make other healthy decisions throughout the day. Exercise has this way of jump starting my day.

3. Starting Tomorrow Won't Get Me Closer to Where I Want to Be Today.
Sometimes I have to remind myself to stop making excuses. I frequently have to tell myself that starting today is better then starting tomorrow, especially if I really want to take my health and fitness seriously. You cannot expect to make gains today (or feel better about yourself, have more energy, and be empowered) if you wait to until tomorrow to start. Plus, tomorrow will be easier if you start today.

What might you add to this list?

I'm beyond thrilled to introduce you to one of my lovely sponsors today. I have had the privilege of getting to know this lady over the last month and she's such a joy. You'll love her too- just watch.

Hi! I'm Lindsay and I blog at Bourbon, Lipstick, and Stilettos. What's in a name? I write mainly about my love of makeup, shoes, and Kentucky bourbon, but don't be surprised if you come across posts on life, tutorials, and a DIY project here and there. I spend my days writing technical documents and my nights cooking and watching Netflix with Jason, my longtime boyfriend. I love making new friends and hope you'll stop by!

1. What are you passionate about? I'm passionate about my relationship with God, my family, writing, reading a good book, and good wine.

2. If you could travel one place in the entire world, where would it be, and why? Italy. The geography, culture, and people are beautiful. Plus, I'm certain I can get along well with anyone who appreciates good food and better wine.

3. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be, and why? Code. I'm a technical writer by day, and know that learning code would help me immeasurably in my career and with my blog. I'm trying to teach myself but don't have a lot of free time!

4. Would you like to know what day you're going to die ahead of time? Why or why not? No, ignorance is bliss! I'd prefer not having a date to focus on; I'd instead like to live every day as if it's my last!

  3. great reminders! we have all of the excuses in the world as to why we can't do the workout. So what a great twist to remind us of the benefits! I would add that doing my workouts teaches my kids to stay healthy. They always do zumba with me in the living room, so as long as I remind myself that they are learning good habits it gets me motivated!

  5. I need more of this in life. Exercise for me is a mind game and my body is losing out. I need my mind to take over and channel these great thoughts to get me moving. And BTW, I love Lindsay!

  10. I love all of these - and many days I have to remind myself why I'm dragging myself out of bed at 5 am, but it is so worth it! My biggest gain was Tons of energy, I love that I feel energized throughout the day instead of needing 3 cups of coffee to keep me going.

  11. Please tell me how to ditch the coffee because exercise doesn't solve that problem for me hahhaa

  15. All these were a must for me to read. I often struggle with weather and use that as an excuse, but regret it after the fact. Hopefully I can start using some of these to step in the right direction!

  17. Yes!!!! I just know I hate skipping a day -- it happens maybe 2-3 x a year and I always feel 'ugh' when I do!!!! Feels SO good to get a good workout in!!!

  18. I need to keep reminding myself that I do feel empowered after I workout. I was really close to skipping my yoga class tonight and then read this. I will get my butt to class now and feel good about it!

  28. Exercising in the morning definitely leads me to make better (healthier) decisions for the rest of the day!

  29. Now if exercise would get rid of my seasonal allergies, that would motivate me -- I feel like everyone's been staring at me lately because of my wheezing! I'm not that exhausted from working out, I just can't keep my airways clear long enough to get in and out of the gym!

  30. Love this! :) Sierra's #1 - yes! It's just tough to get there but once I do, I'm glad that I did!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I can totally relate to that haha sometimes I sleep in gym clothes because it's one less step in the morning hahaha

  32. Now, to find a good work out routine for beginners...suggestions? -Jess

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh do I have suggestions! I like blogilates for quicker, more targeted workouts. Although I'm not a huge fan of Tone It Up they do have some shorter workouts that are good for starting out. My all time favorite is Fitness Blender. Their workouts tend to be more challenging but they do have some great ones for beginners and you can always press pause and take breaks if necessary!
