Meet Aspen + Giveaway

Australian Shepherd

If you follow me on instagram, you know M and I recently added a new four-legged creature to our family. Enter: Aspen.

Aspen is a rescue pup who was found as a stray on the side of a busy road with a few siblings. She's 11 months old and full of personality. We think she's some sort of Australian Shepherd mix, but we have also heard Blue Heeler and Collie. Your guess is as good as ours. What we do know is that she's incredibly smart and willing to please. Given the opportunity, she will climb right into your lap and give you lots of love.

Australian Shepherd
She's the perfect little dog and fits flawlessly into our family. She is potty trained, leash trained, and crate trained. As a matter of fact, she prefers to sleep in her crate even when not forced to. She's a trooper on the runs I force her on and loves animals and people alike. The cats are slowly warming up to her, but I know they will be great friends in no time.

She has already learned a few tricks including sit and shake. We are currently working on stay and down!

Australian Shepherd

In honor of Aspen joining our family, I am working with Chewy to bring other dog lovers a fun giveaway that includes some Blue Buffalo Wilderness dog treats and a Kong. Chewy is the best. They recently sent us a "welcome home" package for our new addition, so thoughtful! Thanks Chewy!

  1. My 8-year-old Weimaraner is no longer a pup by definition but she's forever my baby. She's heavy and big yet always wants to be my lap dog. And she loves any toy she could set her teeth on.

  2. Congrats on the new addition! My oldest dog out of the three I have right now was so easy to train. The other two are constantly a work in progress. I know the "middle child" will never learn "down". He just isn't the brightest tool in the shed but I still love him.

  40. Oh hiiii little nugget!! What a beautiful pup. I'm so jealous of your four-legged addition; my boyfriend and I are looking to get our own sometime in the next year. I will definitely be following your puppy musings closely! Happy Monday :)

  41. Welcome home, Aspen! What a beaut she is.

I recently got a pup, too--she's from the Humane Society and is 3 years old and perfect. :)

  42. Dogs are such a blessing and a joy to have in a home! We grew up with hunting dogs (pointers, setters, and labs) and I helped my dad train as I got older - it's crazy how smart they are! The one "trick" that I was always most proud of was "heel" where the dog walks at your heels - not only would they stay there, but they also knew to walk on the left side (as the right was where the rifle would be carried). This makes me want a pup so bad! Sadly though, I know we wouldn't have the time of day needed to devote to a pup, so we'll stick with our kittes for now. Also - Chewy is an awesome company!!

  43. Aspen is adorable!!!!! I'm so happy you have a dog! Mine are the light of my life! haha I'm obsessed with them. There are few things better than the love and companionship of a dog. I can't wait to see more pictures of her!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Isn't she sweet? They're a lot of work but definitely worth it! My husband and I wanted to figure out how to be married first before we added a dog to the mix and I'm glad we did hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  45. I grew up with labs as well! and YES YES YES she has learned heel soooo quickly (on the left). We really didn't have the time either for the last two years so I'm really glad we waited and figured out how to be married and run a house first before adding a dog to the mix

    ReplyDelete
  46. Thank you!!! I totally agree. I'm sure you'll get enough dog spam in the near future hahah

    ReplyDelete
  47. Aspen looks like such a sweetie! And thank you for rescuing!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Rescuing is the only way! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sweet doggie! My pug baby is 11 years old now, but still loves toys and to play.

    ReplyDelete
  50. What a beautiful pup! My dog has similar markings except with brown too!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thanks! Is she Australian Shepherd?

    ReplyDelete
  52. She's an Australian cattle dog mix! So pretty similar to your pup!

I have a mini goldendoodle that will be 10yrs old in a few weeks & a 8yr old bichon that we rescued. We found the bichon on the side of a highway at night (cold & starving), and after no one claimed her at the humane society - we 'adopted her' a week later (yes, we paid to get a dog back that we had turned in, lol). They are the best of friends & I can't imagine my life w/o them!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. OH. MY. GOODNESS. I LOVE HER.
Ok - enough with the all caps, but seriously here - what an adorable name. I love that you adopted a rescue and a mutt (and a black and white dog - holla! we are so similar!). Glad to see you got a high-energy mix of breeds that can keep up with you on your runs ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. awww fun! my sister went to NAU for undergrad so i've played in flagstaff some :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. SHE IS STUNNING!!
    & i LOVE her name!

    ReplyDelete
  57. So sweet you adopted her!! Rescues are the best

    ReplyDelete
  58. She's actually medium energy given her breed, it's really strange haha we have noticed that she has come out of her shell lately and has had a little more energy. Plus she was a little chubby when we got her and she has been getting a lot of exercise!

    ReplyDelete
  59. My husband and I are both NAU alums :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. YAY! I'm so so glad you were finally able to get the furkid you were wanting, no needing for your family. She's beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I have rescue dogs -- German Shorthaired Pointers -- who would love this!
    RAFFLECOPTER: CAROLSUE

  62. She is so cute!! I see that look in her eye... like she's got TONS of energy... hey! Kinda like you!!! You guys are a perfect match! :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hahaha you're funny. She's actually "medium" energy for a cattle dog but she definitely can keep up with us! We are looking forward to taking her hiking and camping in the near future!
