Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote + GIVEAWAY

Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote
Clothing subscription boxes are really popular lately and there are a TON of different options. The only two I have tried so far are Stitch Fix and Golden Tote. If you're anything like me, you'll find it hard to choose between the two just based on their websites. So today I am here to give you a side by side comparison of the two!

But first, a brief overview:

STITCH FIX
Stitch Fix is a personalized clothing subscription box. This online style service references a style profile, your pinterest favorites, sizes, and other relevant information you provide them with. Their stylists take their time to get to know you and your personal preferences in order to compile a box of five items. You can keep what you like and return the rest!

GOLDEN TOTE
Golden Tote is also a personalized clothing subscription box. You will fill out an online style profile that your stylist will use to put together your tote. You can choose between a 2-3 or 5-6 piece tote. Depending on the size you choose, you either get to select one or two items to definitely receive. Your stylist will choose the rest based on your style and size profile, as well as any additional comments or requests you add! You are required to either keep the entire tote or return all the items.

Here's the comparison:

PRICE:
Stitch Fix: A non-refundable styling fee of $20 is required to receive a tote. However, the prices of your Stitch Fix items will vary and you are able to choose the price range you prefer. If you keep the entire tote, you save 25%. If you keep nothing, you're only losing the $20 fee. In my experience, items can range from $40 to $120.

Golden Tote: You can order a $49 (2-3 pieces total) or $149 (5-6 pieces total) tote. This breaks down to $16-$25 per item if you get the smaller tote, or $25-$30 per item for the large tote.

Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote: Based on price alone, Golden Tote is cheaper.

QUALITY:
Stitch Fix: Stitch fix consistently includes high-quality clothing. I started getting fixes nearly a year ago and I still wear the items regularly. All the material is comfortable and easy to care for.

Golden Tote: POOR quality. Two of the items I received were damaged on their first wash and another one of the items lost it's button on the third wear. The majority of the items are a strange fabric and almost all required dry-cleaning. I find this ridiculous considering the poor quality and cheap cost of the clothing.

Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote: Stitch fix wins the quality comparison.

STYLE:
Stitch Fix: Different people have had different experiences, but I have personally LOVED both of my fixes. My first fix was spot on and I would have kept all the items if I could have afforded it. For my second fix, I kept all the items in the box.

Golden Tote: I liked the style of the majority of the items that were included in my first tote.

Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote: It's hard to say. I have only received two fixes and one tote. For me, the two services both do well in this area.

SIZING:
Stitch Fix: Excellent. I find it really challenging to find things that fit, especially pants, and Stitch Fix has gotten it right almost every time. My first fix did include one pair of shorts that were a little tight, but otherwise everything has fit very well.

Golden Tote: Not great. Of my items, I received a pair of pants and a dress that were too big and a dress that was too tight around my hips. Such a bummer because I really loved the style of the items. It was frustrating that nothing could be sent back.

Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote: Stitch Fix wins this battle.

ATTENTIVENESS:
Stitch Fix: I love how attentive the stylists at Stitch Fix are. You can send them your pinterest boards (which they actually look at), leave them suggestions, and give them detailed feedback. Your fix will also include a personalized note from your stylist and you can request them again if you loved what they chose for you.

Golden Tote: Little attentiveness. Although I liked the styles of my items, there was no space to ask for something specific in my tote (beyond the two items I chose myself). There is also no way to give your stylist feedback if they miss the mark.

Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote: Stitch fix is far more attentive and gives you numerous opportunities to leave feedback.

Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote

OVERALL:
Stitch Fix: Stitch fix has high quality clothing, styles and sizes that fit the individual's preferences, and attentive stylists that take feedback into consideration when putting together your fix.

Golden Tote: Although cheaper, Golden Tote falls short on sizing and attentiveness.

Stitch Fix v. Golden Tote: Looks like Stitch Fix is well-rounded in the majority of these areas.

AND THE WINNER IS: STITCH FIX!

Have you tried either service? Which do you prefer and why?

  1. Someday I am going to break down and do StichFix! Thanks for the review. I had never heard of Golden Tote.

  2. I stayed away from Golden Tote based on your initial review! I love StitchFix and have received 5 fixes and kept at least one item out of every box. I've had some sizing issues but that's mostly my fault. My stylist is amazing and definitely pays attention to what I want!

  3. I've heard NOTHING but amazing things about Stitch Fix. I read about Golden Tote on another blog that I can't recall at the moment, but they had the same feelings as you. What a disappointment, but maybe they will step up their game since there's competition out there. I would love to try Stitch Fix sometime!

  6. I'm so weary to try a box. I'm so so so picky with my clothing. I've heard really great things about Stitch fix, I think if anything I'd go with them. I love your honest opinion!

  7. Good to know! I don't know that I'll ever do one but if I do, I'll do Stitch Fix.

  8. I love Stitch Fix. Of all the boxes I have tried (and I have tried 3), they are the best one by far. I love their clothes and their customer service is fabulous!

  12. I always love looking at everybody's monthly Stitch Fixes and seeing what they got :)

  13. I've tried both. I don't agree that Stitch Fix is higher quality than Golden Tote as they often carry the same brands. The one thing that really bugs me about Golden Tote is having to pay for shipping and such a short window for returns. I also hate that I'm sometimes stuck with items I don't really want and can't seem to sell! I agree with you about sizing. It's hard to know what size to go with when you use Golden Tote. Golden Tote does give you an option to ask for specific items in the comments section of the style profile, but it definitely does bug me that I can't provide really any feedback for a future tote. I like the overall cost of Golden Tote more than Stitch Fix, but I think I may make my way back to Stitch Fix as well. . .mainly because I like their return policy and I love free shipping!

  18. This is probably a really helpful post for a lot of people! I would love to try Stitch Fix and see what kind of fun things the stylist would send me, but I feel like it's a little out of my budget, even if I got the cheaper end of the clothes. Womp womp.

  19. I save up my "allowance" each month for it :) and in the long run, the higher quality is worth it for me

  20. So fascinating! Love this! And...I'm a Stitch Fixer for life. This girl hates shopping, so if someone else is willing to do it for me, it's worth every penny.
