Sedona Marathon 10K Review

If you follow me on instagram, you're probably tired of me talking about my trip to Sedona already because I JUST COULDN'T STOP POSTING PHOTOS. Anyways, that's another problem for another day. Instead, I'm stopping in to review the Sedona Marathon 10K!

As most of you probably know, Northern Arizona is my old stomping grounds and I have a slight obsession with it. I mean, Missouri isn't really tough competition. That being said, I was STOKED to be able to go back home for the race and to participate in it with my mom.

We drove up late Friday night so we weren't able to attend the expo. Since Sedona is so small, I was expecting town to be crazy when we arrived. However, it was really quiet and super easy to get to our hotel (shoutout to Sedona Rouge!). We had a good night's sleep, got up, and headed to packet-pickup. The race provided free shuttles that stopped right in front of our hotel so it was SUPER easy to get to the start line. Always a relief on race day!

Getting our bibs was really quick and easy, and we especially appreciated the gear check since we had taken the shuttle to the race start. Plus, it was cold so we were wearing lots of layers! After dropping our gear we were able to hang out, warm-up, and socialize with some friendly faces! I loved being able to see friends and family while back for such a short trip! It definitely made me homesick.

The race started on time and although it was a later start time than most races (9:20am), I appreciated that the day was a bit warmer by this point. The majority of the course was really hilly and you can't forget the elevation of Sedona, so that was a fun challenge. Thankfully, I feel like my lungs were still used to the elevation.

The race was out and back. I felt like the turnaround was pretty well marked, but a friend of mine did miss the turnaround, so maybe not. The way back was a little strange as there wasn't really good separate between runners on their way out and those on their way back in. It ended up working out alright though, and we were in no hurry. Just trying to enjoy the run!

The aid stations were adequate with plenty of water, electrolytes, GU, and bananas. One stop even had a dancing gorilla, so that's fun! The finish looked like it's on an uphill, and I wasn't looking forward to that. Thankfully, it's not actually much of an incline so that was a relief.

Sedona Marathon finisher medal

The finisher medals were really nice and definitely representative of the race. Overall, a pretty stellar run that I'm really happy to have had the opportunity to race in. I will definitely be returning in future years! I finished with a time of 1:02:39.0 which I feel pretty good about considering we were taking our sweet time running together and the hills were beasts!
