Yesterday I ran the Hospital Hill Run 10k in Kansas City, Missouri. It was a really great race and I am so excited to tell you all more about it. I finished in 54:07 which I was extremely happy with and that was just the icing on top of the cake!

T-Shirts/Swag: I am absolutely thrilled with the t-shirt and swag from this race. 10k runners got a long-sleeved technical tee which is really lightweight and seems perfect for running. I always appreciate races that go above and beyond the generic t-shirt. I will definitely get a lot of use out of these tees. The swag was really great. Everyone got some gel chews at the expo with their packet as well as free beer, pancakes, coffee, and snacks afterwards. The medals were HUGE and really unique and I loved that the bibs had fun sayings on them.

Aid Stations: As I mentioned above, there were snacks after the race. Seriously, what didn't they have at these? They had bananas, crackers, granola bars, ice cream sandwiches, milk, string cheese, and the list goes on. I also loved that the finish line had cold sponges and water for all of the finishers. It was a hot one! The aid stations along the course were well stocked with gatorade and water.

Course Scenery: I really loved this course. It covers a large portion of the Crossroads Art District and also runs past some of the most beautiful old homes in the city. There was entertainment along the way, including bands, drum lines, and volunteers to cheer you on. It was a great course that was very well-marked.

Expo Quality: I had to get in and out of the expo pretty quickly but they had your normal running stores, etc. on site. It was really fast and easy to get my bib and swag, but there was also plenty to do if you're the kind that likes to browse and shop at expos.

Elevation Difficulty: Let me start out by saying that this should be called the Hospital HILLS Run because there are a ton of hills. The majority of them are longer hills, but some had pretty steep inclines as well. I didn't train hills as much as I would have liked prior to the race, but I was still able to get by. I enjoyed the challenge of them and they had plenty of volunteers around to cheer you on as you hustled up them.

Parking/Access: Super easy and straightforward considering it can sometimes be a task to park in downtown KC and it was also KC Pride weekend plus First Friday. We didn't have any problems finding parking for the race or the expo and it was easy in, easy out.

Race Management: I cannot say enough good things about the traffic control and all the wonderful police officers that helped with that. I felt safe the entire time.

Overall:  I LOVED this race and I am so glad it's somewhat local. I will definitely be recommending this race to friends and returning for future years.
